Trip to Madeira and Sao Miguel.
Day 10 - Saturday, February 24, 2024 - Funchal to Ponta Delgada
Most of today was about getting from Madeira to Sao Miguel. We got picked up at the hotel at 9:00 and got through security at the airport with no problems. Our flight left at 12:05 and it was a one hour and 20 minute flight. Got to the hotel about 1:20 (Sao Miguel is an hour behind). Couldn't quite get in our room but went next door to get a pastry(which was a frequent occurrence during our stay) and when we came back it was ready. The rooms nice but I think our last hotel had many more amenities. We unpacked a few things and went out to explore. Ponta Delgada, the capital, is an older and more historic looking place than Funchal/Madeira. As we were coming back to the hotel we ran into Karen, a single traveler with our group, so we walked back downdown with her. We invited her to eat with us at Tasca a few blocks from the hotel. We had a great meal. I had Alcatra (which we remembered from Terceira) Ron fish stew and Karen tuna belly. Then we walked with her to scope out a supermarket. It is really dead here today. We'll see if the same is true on Sunday. Came back and had 14,000 steps. This trip is making me realize I have to get in better shape if I want to keep traveling.
