Day 7 - Wednesday, February 21, 2024 - Funchal
And on the 7th day they rested. We slept in and went down to breakfast around 9:00. Then grabbed our books and sat at the outdoor pool. It was beautiful, sunny and warm. I went for a massage which was awesome. Ron went swimming in the indoor pool. Since we didn't eat lunch we went to dinner very early and had an awesome meal. Zamir, a tour coordinator, suggested a restaurant and gave us a note so we could have the staff special and he didn't stir us wrong. We had bolo da Caco, coleslaw, fries, wine and steak on a stone. They bring out an uncooked steak on a hot stone and you basically cook it to your taste. The steak was amazing and there was even dessert - creme caramel (like flan) and Ron had warm apple pie a la mode. Heavenly. We walked around a bit after dinner and then headed back (up-hill always) to the hotel. The most striking feature in Funchal is the Lido (or promenade) which is at sea level. Our hotel was 1/4 mile up a hill. We walked the Lido almost daily, including its entire length of nearly 3 miles.
