Trip to Madeira and Sao Miguel
Day 8 - Thursday, February 22, 2024 - Funchal
Happy Birthday Judy!
Today was another free day so we slept late, ate a good breakfast and headed right down the main drag away from downtown Funchal. We walked along the water and watched the ocean swimmers and the fishermen. We went through a tunnel that was carved through the mountain and you could hear the waves as they crashed on the rocks. We walked and walked until we were blocked from going any further. On the way we stopped to hydrate at a little bar right on the water. At 3:00 we had a late lunch or early dinner and once again enjoyed the lovely scenery. We bought some chocolate and some traditional Madiera sugar cane bread (bolo de mel de cana) which we'll have as a snack in our room. We walked about 20,000 steps today but that just doesn't factor in the hilly nature of Madiera.
