Trip to Madeira and Sao Miguel

Day 14 - Wednesday, February 28, 2024 - Ponta Delgada

Breakfast today was tea in our room and a pastry from the bakery next store because we needed to be down by the water at 8:15. We were going on a whale watch. The weather was perfect but that didn't mean it wasn't a very bumpy ride. It registered an extra 10,000 steps while we were out on the water.  A zodiac boat which fit 15 was our transportation. We were out for about 3 hours and had a successful time. We saw 2 sperm whales, a minkie whale, and lots of playful common dolphins. Our guide, a marine biologist, was beside himself with our sightings. This was the first sperm whale seen this winter and the most active he's ever seen the dolphins in his 2 years of work. Unfortunately I don't have good pictures as I ended up with a mammoth guy in front of me. We considered ourselves lucky as they have hardly seen anything but dolphins 🐬 all month. After,  we walked down the waterfront with Frank, Jane, and Karen to a nice seafood restaurant. Then we walked to the supermarket and picked up a few things. Ron, Karen and I stopped at the local bar down the street and had gelatos. It has been a busy few days so I think well have a quiet evening before our last 2 days in Sao Miguel.

Not so great pics of our whale watch

but it was great in person
